From the ruins of the castle Grevenburg, high above the town on the right bank of the Moselle you have the best view of the town. The castle was built in 1350 by John III of Sponheim and blown up by the French in 1734. In the meantime, it was in possession of the hereditary prince of Hesse on order of the English commander Marlborough. Later occupied by the Dutch and repaired by the Electorate of Trier.
