Peggys Cove

Peggys Cove south of Halifax in the province Nova Scotia is one of the most photographed places in Canada.

Next to the homonymous fishing village with about 100 inhabitants, on a huge granite rock, rounded out by the water, stands a lighthouse. The small post office inside the lighthouse offers a special postmark which is a popular trophy of stamp collectors.

The area around Peggys Cove attracts crowds of tourists and with the tourists, the bagpipers arrived. The frequent fog makes the place unreal, almost uncanny.

Within sight of the lighthouse are the memorial stones for the Swissair Flight 111 from 1998, which ended tragically with 229 fatalities off the coast.
