A stroll in Berlin - Germany 1977

Berlin, the capital of the reunited Federal Republic of Germany, was still subdivided into the west and east, in 1977.

At that time, Bonn was the capital of the Federal Republic. The Berlin Tegel Airport was the airport of the western part of Berlin and is still the largest airport in Berlin. Since then, the KurfĂĽrstendamm with the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church has not changed significantly. In contrast, the Brandenburg Gate was still separated from the western part by the Berlin Wall and the building of the German Bundestag (the former Reichstag building) lacked the decorative glass dome.

The new Berlin Philharmonie and the building of the Berlin State Library in Potsdamer Street were built already. Excursion boats in the form of giant fish sailed across the Wannsee lake. The only transition for cars between east and west was Checkpoint Charlie, which had reached sad fame. Only the Charlottenburg Palace still looks like in the year 1977.
