The harbor of Nafplio - Greece

The picturesque seaport Nafplio is located in the northeast of the Peloponnese at the Argolic Gulf Greece.

Nafplio gained in importance during in the Byzantine Empire. The first castle was built above today's old town. It is partly misused by a hotel construction. The second, highly visible fortress was built on the Palamidi hill under Venetian rule. 999 steps lead up to it.

Along the harbor wall, a variety of taverns and restaurants invite for a rest. In the middle of the harbor entrance is the third fortification of the city, the Bourtzi which was later used as a prison and home of the executioner.
