The mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut is in Deir el Bahari is on the bank of the Nile opposite of Luxor, near the Valley of the Kings. Hatshepsut ruled for 22 years and died a natural death in 1457 BC. She is considered one of the most important rulers of the new empire.

The temple is her most important building. 3 terraces connected by ramps are nestled right on the mountain slope. The architect was presumably Senmut. Her cartridges were destroyed at a later date, possibly to prove the continuity of the male line of succession.
