Cesar Manrique's House in Tahiche - Lanzarote



César Manrique, the most important artist of the Canary Island of Lanzarote has decisively influenced the picture of this island. Today, his former residential building in the community Tahiche is a museum seat of the Fundación César Manrique (César Manrique Foundation).

After dropping his studies of Technical Architecture he graduated in art and painting. After a working period in Spain, he received a scholarship from the International Institute of Art Education to study American Art.

After his return he stood up for the environmental protection on Lanzarote and achieved that hoardings on the island were banned and houses were not allowed to be taller than two-story. 

He built his house in a lava field where he discovered five lava bubbles and turned these into living purposes.
